While Avengers: Endgame bade goodbye to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America, it ushered in a new era for the other Avengers. Several side characters finally got their own storylines and series, such as the Scarlet Witch and Loki, while Sam Wilson took on the mantle of becoming the next Captain America.

While Marvel films tend to shy away from being overtly political, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier delved into political debates surrounding racism and refugee crises. It critiqued American foreign policy and immigration rules and raised important questions on what it means for a Black man to become the next Captain America. It also showcased Bucky Barnes gradually healing from his Winter Soldier past and becoming Sam’s best friend.

Clint Barton was definitely one of the most underrated Avengers, and the mini-series explored the different facets of his character. It also introduced Kate Bishop, Barton’s spunky protegee who is a talented archer in her own right.

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki definitely made Norse mythology cool in the 21st century, and after much fan-activism, Loki finally got his own mini-series. Although the show didn’t do justice to the God of Mischief, it introduced the viewers to Marvel’s multiverse, paving the way for the Spiderman and Doctor Strange sequels.

Following the events of Loki where the Sacred Timeline was destroyed, What If…? reimagined our favorite Marvel superheroes in alternate scenarios. It appeared to be Marvel’s own attempt at making fanfiction. While a few episodes stood out, much of the animated series was rather mediocre.
