Spanning over 100 episodes, the anime adaptation of My Hero Academia has been hugely successful. Set in a world where most people possess superpowers called “Quirks,” the series follows the adventures of Izuku Midoriya, who is born without any special powers.
Determined to be a superhero, his bravery, empathy, and selflessness is noticed by All Might, a Pro Hero, who bestows upon him the “One For All” Quirk. Along with others, Izuku enrolls at U.A., a premier school where he makes new friends, learns to control his powers, and fight deadly villains.
Here are some reasons why you should check this anime out!

Although Izuku is the main protagonist, the anime has a huge cast of supporting characters with interesting backstories and complex motivations. It isn’t just Izuku’s story but also that of his classmates, including childhood rival Bakugo and the immensely talented Shoto Todoroki, among several others. Even the villains are well-fleshed out.
Given that it’s a show about superpowers, there are a lot of well-choreographed fight scenes. Characters with different Quirks are frequently matched against each other, whether in an altercation with a monster or in a competitive sports festival. The fights aren’t just about landing punches but also about strategy, careful planning, and thinking on your feet. Filled with twists, the outcomes are often unexpected but immensely satisfying.

The show is set in contemporary Japan, but with one main twist: superpowers are very commonplace. As a result, crimes are high, and there are specific agencies dedicated to dispatching heroes to fight the monsters. Being a hero is a full-time job, with benefits and drawbacks. Yet, at the same time, the show is also focused on the “mundane”- regular people going about their daily lives, classroom rivalries, and cliques, and the struggle to find a sense of self amidst a chaotic world.
Full of comedic moments and intense fights, My Hero Academia is immensely entertaining and engaging and is sure to appeal to regular Otakus and to those curious to explore the anime genre.
